Review:I've been using a Dell Vostro 1700 for nearly 4 years now. I have been impressed with this machine and it is still quite capable running Win 7 after a couple hardware upgrades. However, as I get more into video work, I've been on the lookout for an upgrade with some more CPU and graphics firepower. I checked around and found that the latest incarnation of my 1700 is the 3750. After seeing the great discount (as of 6/17/11) for the i5 powered model, I took the plunge. It arrived the next business day and so far, I'm impressed. Beyond the usual performance improvements, I've been impressed with the backlit keyboard, lighter weight, bright HD screen, lack of trial "crapware", and the excellent sound quality (for a laptop with stock speakers). I use the machine as my primary desktop and, so far, it is a worthy successor to my bulletproof 1700.

The only minor con that I can come up with is the perceived strength of some case materials. The 1700 seems to be more metal than the 3750, but that is probably the only way the lighter weight could be achieved. The 1700 is built like a tank and has the weight to prove it. Some of the plastic parts on the 3750 seem a bit flimsier (screen bezel, for one). I doubt that it will be a problem, but I did notice the difference having both machines side by side.

the i7 CPU runs smoothly
i changed the ram to 8gb
finger print reader is one of the best
hard drive runs like a sleeping baby
design is magnificent
keyboard is mac like
the heat is evenly distributed so its cool even running games like cod
its almost as good a a macbook pro and for its money the cheapest 17inch laptop ever!
i got mine in the eofy sale 30% off it was roughly $1200 the best $1200 i have spent in my life!

but the huge letdown was the display but its better than my old 17inch asus i got last year

i don't know what the fuss is with the speakers, only on half loudness i can hear it clear down stairs
all in all its is a very good laptop and i would highly recommend for everyone thats looking for a decent laptop for a cheap price.

everything is nice except the viewing angle is narrow

I love the 3750 but its viewing angle is relatively narrow, i don't know why. If there is a chance to change the LCD to a higher grade panel, I would do it if it does not cost me an arm and a leg
